Rooted in community imagination and collective action, Listening With: is a place-based, process-centered initiative designed to reestablish our connections with the more-than-human world. Weaving together somatic practice, archival study, and community engagement, the project critically examines how histories of colonialism, extraction, displacement, racial injustice, and the treatment of nature as property have fractured human relationships to the natural world.

 

Immersive programming that blends embodied storytelling, performance, film, installation, education, public conversation, and community engagement invites participants and audience members alike to imagine new possibilities for our collective futures. By uncovering relationships that have been obscured, fractured, or forgotten, Listening With: fosters deeper connections to place, history, and one another.

This evolving work is being developed through the Harlem River Artist-in-Residence program, funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, administered by the Hudson River Foundation, and supported by the Bronx & Harlem Rivers Urban Waters Federal Partnership, the NY–NJ Harbor & Estuary Program, and the Bronx Council on the Arts.
